Another day, another Dragon Ball. Once again Liek was setting out to track down the mythical orbs in hopes of helping him pursue the future he hoped to create, even if he wasn’t entirely sure what that future would look like yet. The only thing he was certain of was what he had always known he wanted; to preserve and propagate the Furiemshinken for generation to come.
Volda had informed him earlier to disregard his earlier suggestion for a wish. It turned out he had been misinformed about the matter. It didn’t change much for Liek, the Dragon Gods where not all powerful or all knowing, they only governed the flow of Life through the Orgone. Though it did leave him with the dilemma of what exactly to wish for? Though, right now, Liek surmised that was a problem for another day.
As he few he felt the familiar shift in the Orgone indicating the start of another Trial and allowed it to engulf him.
Opening his eyes the youth found himself confronted with a strange scene. He was inside some amalgam of a vault and a temple filled with Fury architecture. The main structure was large, easily fourteen metres wide in one direction and twenty long in the other, the ceiling rising a fair ten metres from the ground. The chamber was divided with pillars running the length of the hall, dividing the sides a quarter of the way in leaving the main passage quite wide. He stood at one end of the room and on the other end where two things that caught his attention.
On one side was something that made Liek’s heart skip a beat in shock. There was a sword, but not just any blade. He recognised it by reputation and description, but this was his first time seeing it, which shocked him as it was thought lost along with Gara-teus, home world of the Fury. The blade was crafted of rarefied silver Orgonite alloy and emblazoned with a gold Orgonite dragon for filigree and purpose, the wings of the dragon forming the hilt of the weapon while the head extended a short way up the blade, and the tail forming the grip and pommel. This remarkable blade was the Royal sword of the Imperial Family of the Fury; Arta-Velun!
The other thing he saw was equally shocking; a young woman bound and frail. Her azure blue hair cascaded past her shoulders, her porcelain skin pale and tight across her withered form. Her body was covered in a shimmering sky blue dress bejewelled with gold and green Orgonite. She weakly lifted her head to look at him with pale blue eyes, silently pleading with her gaze and chapped lips. On her face where natural marking that Liek recognised as indicative of Fury heritage!
Rush over Liek noticed something that made him pause, his heart dropping; it was a trap. Both the bound woman and the sword where rigged with a trap mechanism. Even with a casual glance he could tell that if he grabbed one it would mean certain doom for the other. Even with all his speed even he couldn’t succeed in saving both. Biting his lip he tried to call on his Broken Arms, figuring they would allow him to be in two places at once, only to find the area was covered in an Orgone Dampening Field.
He had no choice but to choose…
Priceless relic… or living Fury…?
The choice was an easy one to make and the youth moved in a blur, tearing the bindings from the young woman and running for the exit with her in his arms as the traps fired, engulfing the relic weapon in flames and magma, blocks from the ceiling collapsing around the young man as he sprinted for the exit.
As he emerged he found himself back in reality…
And the ghostly image of the woman floating before him, now looking fit and healthy. She smiled as she spoke, “So ends the Trial of Heart. A true Fury always remembers that Life always holds greater value then the material.” She inclined her head at the youth as she faded with the words, “May Basireous’ Light Guide your Path, and Volda’s Darkness await at Journey’s End.”
Liek bit his lip, “They sure aren’t making these easy…” He noted before continuing his hunt.
